Baroque Barbie

$550.00

When we visited a museum in Seville, Spain I saw this most incredible wooden barbie doll, with moveable arms and waist.  I just knew that the wooden skirt and stiff wooden hands would lend itself to a painting somewhere down the road.  The face on the wooden doll was a bit solemn and perhaps longing for something more than a lifetime of sitting in a museum.  I chose to add a bluebird of happiness with a tiny pink flower in its beak to cheer her up.  For the longest time I kept the background quite a solid orange colour.  About a year later, I went at it with a bronzing type glaze effect, and felt it suited the era better.  To be historically correct and a bit cheeky, I named this piece “Baroque Barbie”.   Get it?
