Pelican Posing at Little Arm Bay, SK

I see pelicans sunning and preening themselves down at Little Arm Bay often.  They are such bulky and personable birds.  I decided to paint a single pelican using a palette knife for the majority of the piece.  I used heavy body gloss gel to get lots of texture.  The crazy colours were simply a matter of playtime, as otherwise it would be a rather boring pelican with whites and greys.  I wonder what the body posture and piercing eye are trying to say.
