Blue Bird & Blue VW Bug at Regina Beach SK

When asked for a 12″ x 12″ painting for a square foot show at the Last Mountain Lake Cultural Centre 20th Anniversary calendar, I immediately thought of the Blue Bird Cafe and their delicious fish and chips.  I spent extra time trying to get the building right.  I used a palette knife to replicate the rough stucco surface particularly on the top of building.  And, a while back I was asked to paint a VW, likely as a result of the Findlater Show & Shine held mid-July each year.  Many of the VW Bugs that I’ve seen are blue, so I chose to combine the Blue Bird and the Blue Bug to come up with this piece.  I really like the vintage vibe of this one.
