Gustavo the Goat
We had a goat at the farm named Sally – silly Sally. Her fur and markings were much the same as this goat who became known as Gustavo the Goat. My friend, Deb, named him Gustavo early on. I was trying to decide on what to put in his mouth, and received some great suggestions. One of the suggestions came from Curtis Sanheim, which made me think of the delicious pipe smoke of Gus Sanheim and of my beloved grandfather Clarence Gillies. Upon scrolling around on the Internet, I came upon a funny poster of President Lincoln with a pipe in hand, blowing bubbles. I chose an antique style pipe, drew it out on parchment paper, and then positioned it this way and that until I had the angle that I thought suited. And . . . then the hard part . . . .learning how to paint realistic looking soap bubbles. Several days and attempts later, I had bubbles that I was happy with. The red polka-dotted ascot seems to give him a refined, a la Hugh Hefner, look that made sense in my brain. So, yeah, the creative process just takes over; I’m not much for planning out the finished piece beforehand. . . lol.
